Fourth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (18-16) saved a 1-point victory at home edging one of their biggest challengers Caballeros de Culiacan (18-16) 79-78 in the game for the third place. Americans were the main players on the court. Center Leon Gibson (206-91, college: Houston) notched a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) supported him with 12 points. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach James Penny allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 19 points and 5 rebounds by guard Bruce Massey (190-90, college: Middle Tenn.St.) did not help to save the game for Caballeros de Culiacan. Guard Jaylen Bland (190-93, college: Cal-Riverside) added 14 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Five Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys moved-up to third place, which they share with Culiacan. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against Frayles de Guasave (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Pioneros Los Mochis (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
