Regular Season Round 15: Goldfields G. - Rockingham F. 92-67

Date: June 9, 2018
There was an upset in Kalgoorlie where 4th placed Flames (9-7) were crushed by fourteenth ranked Giants (3-13) 92-67 on Saturday. Giants made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Giants outrebounded Flames 58-36 including a 40-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Jake Martin (198-85, college: Luther) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 16 rebounds. His fellow American import swingman Jeylyn Sharpe (194-91, college: Rogers St.) helped adding 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Kevin White (189-87, college: Alaska-Anch.) with 13 points and 8 rebounds and forward Justin Beard (196-96) scored 17 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Giants maintains fourteenth place in League with 3-13 record. Loser Flames keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Giants will face higher ranked Cougars (#11) in Hamilton Hill in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Flames will play on the road against Suns (#9) in Kalamunda and hope to win that game.
