Regular Season Round 15: SW Metro P. - Gladstone P. 80-90

There was an upset in Runcorn where higher ranked South West Metro Pirates (4-4) were defeated by thirteenth ranked Gladstone Port City Power (3-5) 90-80 on Saturday. Gladstone Port City Power made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. South West Metro Pirates were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American guard Taylor Young (193-90, college: Warner Pacific) who led his team to a victory scoring 35 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import swingman Casey Walker (196-92, college: Delaware St.) helped adding 19 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Nigerian-American guard Princeton Onwas (198-93, college: San Jose St.) with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Jarred Bairstow (201-92, college: Cent.Oklahoma) scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Five South West Metro Pirates players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gladstone Port City Power moved-up to twelfth place in League. Loser South West Metro Pirates dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Gladstone Port City Power will face higher ranked Cairns Marlins (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
