Regular Season Round 14: Panteras - Marinos 90-88

Fifth-ranked Marinos (1-7) were very close to win a game against second ranked Panteras (6-2) in Caracas on Tuesday. Panteras managed to secure only two-point victory 90-88. However their fans expected easier game. Panteras made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Panteras outrebounded Marinos 43-22 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Marinos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Power forward Eliezer Montano (206-91) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Panteras' coach Manuel Povea used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Edgar Martinez (190-97) replied with 20 points and 7 rebounds and international Jose Bracho (190-98) added 25 points in the effort for Marinos. Panteras maintains second position with 6-2 record having six points less than leader Gigantes. Marinos at the other side keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Panteras are looking forward to face Bucaneros (#3) in La Guaira in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Marinos will play at home against the league's leader Gigantes and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
