Regular Season Round 15: Nunawading S. - Canberra C. II 65-56
Date: June 16, 2018
Very predictable result in East Burwood where first ranked Spectres (10-3) defeated 6th ranked Nationals (5-7) 65-56 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 13-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 65-56. Spectres forced 21 Nationals turnovers. It was a great evening for guard Marena Whittle (180-94, college: N.Dakota St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Naturalized Greek guard Vanessa Panousis (170-95, college: Virginia Tech) helped adding 11 points. Four Spectres players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Sarah Mcappion (175-90, college: Troy) with 26 points and the other American import forward Brittni Montgomery (190-92, college: Cent.Florida) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Spectres maintains first place in League with 10-3 record. Loser Nationals keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Spectres will face Ballarat Rush (#7) in Wendouree in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Nationals will play at home against Hobart Chargers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
