There was an upset in Cheltenham where top-ranked Ballarat Miners (9-4) were outplayed by seventh ranked Sabres (4-10) 102-83 on Saturday. The game without a history. Sabres led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. The former international forward David Barlow (205-83, college: Metro St.) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Nathan Crosswell (190-79) chipped in 19 points and 5 assists. Guard Peter Hooley (193-92, college: Albany) produced 35 points (!!!) and guard Sam Short (195-98) added 12 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sabres maintains seventh position in League with 4-10 record. Loser Ballarat Miners still keep top place with four games lost. Sabres will face higher ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (#5) in Ulverstone in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ballarat Miners will play at home against Mount Gambier Pioneers (#6) and hope to win that game.
