Regular Season Round 16: Newcastle H. - Hills H. 85-62

Round 16 in State League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Broadmeadow where host Newcastle Hunters (11-2) crushed league's leader Hills Hornets (11-3) 85-62 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the top position in League. Newcastle Hunters made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Newcastle Hunters outrebounded Hills Hornets 52-30 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Newcastle Hunters made 10 blocks. American guard Austin Thornton (195-88, college: Michigan St.) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 21 rebounds for the winners. Jacob Foy chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. Four Newcastle Hunters players scored in double figures. Naturalized British forward Paul Brotherson (198-89, college: Metro St.) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and forward Heath Wiechman (206, college: Dallas Baptist) added 14 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. Newcastle Hunters keep a position of League leader. Hills Hornets at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Mackay M.. Hills Hornets will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Newcastle Hunters will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Spiders in Hornsby.
