There was a surprise result in Mount Waverley where eleventh ranked Blackburn V. (3-12) beat much higher ranked Waverley Falcons (10-5) 88-70 on Sunday. Blackburn V. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Waverley Falcons' 34. Blackburn V. forced 23 Waverley Falcons turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Brendan Trewella fired 14 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals for the winners. American forward Bryan Moore (196, college: Assumption) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Adrien Sturt (209-86, college: Snow CC) produced 19 points and 9 rebounds and Timothy Liesting added 11 points respectively for lost side. Five Blackburn V. and four Waverley Falcons players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Blackburn V. maintains eleventh position in League with 3-12 record. Loser Waverley Falcons keep the second place with five games lost. Blackburn V. will face higher ranked Magic (#4) in Hawthorn in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Waverley Falcons will play at home against Knox Raiders and hope to win that game.
