Regular Season Round 18: Guaiqueries - Marinos 78-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Marinos' (2-10) road loss to fourth ranked Guaiqueries (7-7) 70-78 on Wednesday. American swingman Anthony Smith (195-86, college: Liberty) scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international swingman Francisco Centeno (201-85) chipped in 15 points during the contest. Guaiqueries' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was center Miguel Bolivar (205-92) with 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and Edgar Martinez (190-97) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Guaiqueries moved-up to third place, which they share with Bucaneros. Marinos lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with ten games lost. Guaiqueries will meet league's second-placed Panteras in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Marinos will play against Bucaneros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
