Not a big story in a game when 13th ranked Slammers (4-14) lost to fifth ranked Flames (11-8) in Rockingham 78-96 on Friday. Flames looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Forward Justin Beard (196-96) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Greg Hire (201-87, college: Augusta) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Flames' coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American-Irish forward Brian Voelkel (196-92, college: Vermont) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Travis Durnin (201-98) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Slammers. Five Flames and four Slammers players scored in double figures. Flames moved-up to fourth place in League. Loser Slammers keep the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. Flames will face Hawks (#5) in Floreat in the next round. Slammers will play at home against Giants (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
