Regular Season Round 16: Sandringham S. - Launceston T. 84-114
Date: June 23, 2018
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Sabres (9-6) against fourth ranked Tornadoes (9-6) on Saturday night. Host Sabres were crushed by Tornadoes in Cheltenham 114-84. Tornadoes shot 26 for 35 from the free-throw line, while Sabres only scored four points from the stripe. They shot the lights out from three nailing 16 long-distance shots on high 61.5 percentage. Tornadoes players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by guard Alex Wilson (174-94) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists and Ellie Collins supported her with 27 points and 16 rebounds. Five Tornadoes players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists by the former international Rachel Jarry (185-91) did not help to save the game for Sabres. New Zealand center Megan Craig (203-93, college: Albany) added 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for lost side. Tornadoes moved-up to third place in League which they share with defeated Sabres. Tornadoes' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Rangers in Dandenong and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sabres will play on the road against Nationals in Canberra and hope to win that game.
