Regular Season Round 17: Corio Bay S. - Eltham W. 71-99

Very expected game when 12th ranked Stingrays (2-13) were smashed by second ranked Eltham Wildcats (12-5) in Geelong 99-71 on Saturday. Eltham Wildcats shot 21 for 35 from the free-throw line, while Stingrays only scored one point from the stripe. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Stingrays were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Benjamin Waldren orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Justin Aver (190-89) contributed with 18 points and 4 assists for the winners. Five Eltham Wildcats players scored in double figures. Aaron Lynch answered with 18 points and 9 rebounds and American power forward Julius Brooks (206-90, college: Loyola, MD) added 19 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Stingrays. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Eltham Wildcats maintains second place in League with 12-5 record having just eight point less than leader Mackay M. Loser Stingrays keep the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Eltham Wildcats will face Blackburn V. (#11) in Melbourne in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Stingrays will play at home against Blackburn V. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
