Everything went according to plan when first ranked Newcastle Hunters (12-2) outplayed 9th ranked Spiders (3-12) in Hornsby 100-80 on Saturday. They outrebounded Spiders 47-32 including a 39-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Newcastle Hunters looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. American guard Austin Thornton (195-88, college: Michigan St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 7 rebounds, 13 assists and 5 steals. His fellow American import forward Sharif Watson (198-93, college: Ariz.Christian) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Five Newcastle Hunters players scored in double figures. Newcastle Hunters' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Kwaku Brefo answered with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Jack Larkins added 12 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals in the effort for Spiders. Newcastle Hunters maintains first place in League with 12-2 record. Loser Spiders dropped to the tenth position with 12 games lost.
