Regular Season Round 17: Mackay M. - Gold Coast R. 93-89

Date: June 23, 2018
Very predictable result when first ranked Mackay Meteors (10-1) won against at home 9th ranked Rollers (4-6) 93-89 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Rollers won fourth quarter 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mackay Meteors made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Rollers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international swingman Todd Blanchfield (200-91) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 18 rebounds. Guard Chris Cedar (188-88) contributed with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American guard Deon Mitchell (186-93, college: N.Iowa) answered with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international forward Jack McVeigh (203-96, college: Nebraska) added 15 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Rollers. Five Mackay Meteors and four Rollers players scored in double figures. Mackay Meteors maintains first place in League with 10-1 record. Loser Rollers dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. Mackay Meteors will face Cairns Marlins (#4) at home in the next round. Rollers will play against NGC Seahawks (#15) in Runaway Bay and hope to win that game.
