Regular Season Round 17: Toowoomba M. - Gold Coast R. 50-92

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Mountaineers (0-13) were outleveled by thirteenth ranked Rollers (2-11) in Toowoomba 92-50 on Friday. Rollers dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Mountaineers' 36. They outrebounded Mountaineers 66-29 including a 48-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rollers looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Mountaineers' players. New Zealand forward Alicia Carline (190-93, college: Portland St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 21 rebounds. Kate Hewett (-96) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American swingman Donnaizha Fountain (183, college: Seton Hall, agency: Gamble Sports Management) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals and Despena Dickerson (-96) added 11 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Mountaineers. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rollers maintains thirteenth place in League with 2-11 record. Loser Mountaineers still closes the standings with 13 games lost. Rollers will face higher ranked Sunshine CR (#9) in Sippy Downs in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mountaineers will play on the road against Capitals (#10) in Brisbane and hope to get finally their first victory.
