Regular Season Round 17: Mackay M. - Cairns D. 73-61

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Dolphins (4-8) lost to eighth ranked Meteorettes (7-6) in Mackay 61-73 on Sunday. Meteorettes made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. American forward Mia Loyd (180-94, college: N.Dakota) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Forward Jacqui Zelenka (169-92) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Leichan Williams answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds and American swingman Robin Perkins (178-93, college: Rider) added 15 points in the effort for Dolphins. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Meteorettes maintains eighth place in League with 7-6 record. Loser Dolphins keep the eleventh position with eight games lost. Meteorettes will face league's leader Flames in Townsville in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
