Regular Season Round 18: Diamond VE - Hobart C. 76-68

Everything could happen in Greensborough at the game between two tied teams. Both second ranked Diamond Valley Eagles and 6th ranked Hobart Chargers had identical 10-8 record. This time Diamond Valley Eagles used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Hobart 76-68 on Friday night. Hobart Chargers trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 22-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 68-76 at the end of the game. Diamond Valley Eagles made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. The former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-96) had a double-double by scoring 30 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international power forward Eziyoda Magbegor (176-99) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Diamond Valley Eagles players scored in double figures. Diamond Valley Eagles' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Brittany Smart (175-85, college: Cedarville) with 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and her fellow American import swingman Kathleen Scheer (187-89, college: Duke) scored 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Despite that victory Diamond Valley Eagles went down to third position (League) due to points difference. Loser Hobart Chargers dropped to the fifth place with nine games lost. Diamond Valley Eagles will face league's second-placed Tornadoes in Launceston in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hobart Chargers will play on the road against Rangers in Dandenong and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
