Very expected game in Bunbury where 13th ranked Slammers (6-17) were crushed by third ranked Redbacks (17-7) 118-88 on Saturday. Redbacks dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Slammers' 36. Redbacks had a 31-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American power forward Lee Roberts (201-87, college: Findlay, OH) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. The former international forward Shawn Redhage (203-81, college: Arizona St.) helped adding 23 points. At the losing side American-Irish forward Brian Voelkel (196-92, college: Vermont) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists and American guard Michael Lay (179-84, college: Concordia, OR) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Redbacks maintains third place in League with 17-7 record having just fifteen point less than leader Mackay M. Loser Slammers dropped to the twelfth position with 17 games lost. Redbacks will face Flames (#8) in Rockingham in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Slammers will play on the road against Cougars (#10) in Hamilton Hill and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
