Regular Season Round 18: Sunshine CR - Gold Coast R. 74-70
Date: July 7, 2018
Everything went according to plan in Sippy Downs where ninth ranked Sunshine CR (7-8) beat 13th ranked Rollers (2-12) 74-70 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Rollers won third quarter 26-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sunshine CR dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Rollers' 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Leah Scott (183-93, college: Marshall) scored 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Carlie Smith chipped in 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Carliegh Patrick with 24 points and 5 rebounds and New Zealand forward Alicia Carline (190-93, college: Portland St.) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Rollers' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Sunshine CR maintains ninth position in League with 7-8 record. Loser Rollers keep the thirteenth place with 12 games lost. Sunshine CR will face league's leader Flames in Townsville in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Rollers will play on the road against Force (#4) in Booval and hope to win that game.
