Regular Season Round 18: NGC Seahawks - Rockhampton C. 55-78

Date: July 7, 2018
Rather predictable result in Runaway Bay where fifth ranked Cyclones (10-5) smashed 7th ranked Seahawks (8-7) 78-55 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cyclones. Seahawks was better in third quarter 21-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Seahawks to just 4 points in first quarter and to 14 points in first half. Cyclones held Seahawks to an opponent 24.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.3 percent accuracy of the winners. American guard Aaryn Ellenberg (170-92, college: Oklahoma) scored 23 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Shanavia Dowdell (188-87, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Cyclones players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Casey Samuels (182-94) with 17 points and 6 rebounds and American center Leeza Burdgess (194-90, college: La Salle) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cyclones maintains fifth position in League with 10-5 record. Newly promoted Seahawks dropped to the eighth place with seven games lost. Cyclones will face Mountaineers (#15) in Toowoomba in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Seahawks will play at home against Brisbane Spartans (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
