Regular Season Round 18: Bendigo LB - Launceston T. 95-81

Rather expected game in Bendigo where one of their biggest challengers Tornadoes (12-7) were defeated by top-ranked Lady Braves (18-0) 95-81 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-81. Lady Braves outrebounded Tornadoes 42-25 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The former international center Gabrielle Richards (191-84, college: Oregon) had a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Kelly Wilson (170-84) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 16 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Lauren Nicholson (183-93, college: St.Mary's, CA) with 25 points and 5 steals and guard Alex Wilson (174-94) scored 13 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lady Braves maintains first position in League with 18-0 record. Loser Tornadoes dropped to the second place with seven games lost. Lady Braves will face Geelong Supercats (#4) on the road in the next round. Tornadoes will play against Diamond Valley Eagles and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
