Regular Season Round 18: Brisbane C. - Rockhampton C. 52-89

Date: July 8, 2018
Not a big story in a game in Brisbane where 10th ranked Capitals (5-8) were rolled over by fifth ranked Cyclones (10-5) 89-52 on Sunday. The game without a history. Cyclones led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They held Capitals to an opponent 23.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.2 percent accuracy of the winners. Cyclones had a 38-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cyclones made 10 blocks. American Shanavia Dowdell (188-87, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: LBM Management) had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and New Zealand guard Brooke Blair (173-94, college: Idaho St.) chipped in 23 points and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Akilah Bethel (183-93, college: LSU) with 6 points and 13 rebounds and guard Amy Lewis (175-86, college: Troy) scored 10 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cyclones maintains fifth position in League with 10-5 record. Loser Capitals keep the tenth place with eight games lost. Cyclones will face Mountaineers (#15) in Toowoomba in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Capitals will play at home against Pirates (#3) and hope to win that game.
