Regular Season Round 20: Melbourne T. - Dandenong R. 80-72

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when sixth ranked Tigers (9-10) defeated 5th ranked Dandenong Rangers (9-10) in Melbourne 80-72 on Saturday. Dandenong Rangers trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 29-24 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 72-80 at the end of the game. Strangely Dandenong Rangers outrebounded Tigers 43-30 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Dandenong Rangers were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Tom Wilson (195-97, college: SMU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 36 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Max Viitala (196, college: TWU) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Anthony Drmic (198-92, college: Boise St.) replied with 18 points and point guard Lucas Barker (183-93, college: Indianapolis) added 14 points in the effort for Dandenong Rangers. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tigers maintains sixth position in League with 9-10 record. Tigers will face higher ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (#5) in Mt Gambier in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Dandenong Rangers will play at home against Canberra Gunners and hope to win that game.
