Not a big story in a game in Mt. Barker where 7th ranked Mavericks (7-10) were defeated by third ranked Flames (12-5) 83-71 on Saturday. Flames forced 19 Mavericks turnovers. Guard Megan Pritchard (180, college: Pfeiffer) fired 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Jessica Foley (182-83, college: Duke) chipped in 20 points and 5 steals. Forward Samantha Lubcke (188-96, college: Utah Valley, agency: AgainHello) produced 28 points and 9 rebounds and American power forward Carmen Tyson-Thomas (180-91, college: Syracuse, agency: Two Points) added 17 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Mavericks players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Flames maintains third place in League with 12-5 record having seven points less than leader Bendigo LB. Loser Mavericks keep the seventh position with ten games lost. Flames will face Eagles (#4) in Goodwood in the next round. Mavericks will play at home against Warriors and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
