Regular Season Round 20: Albury W.B. - Canberra G. 95-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Canberra Gunners' (0-17) road loss to seventh ranked Bandits (7-11) in Albury 70-95 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Bandits. Canberra Gunners was better in third quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bandits dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Canberra Gunners' 30. They outrebounded Canberra Gunners 51-33 including a 41-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. American power forward Lamar Mallory (201-90, college: Glenville St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds. Point guard Deba George (183-85) contributed with 19 points and 8 assists for the winners. Mallory attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. Guard Daniel Joyce (194-87) replied with 18 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and center Ben Allen (211-86, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 18 points in the effort for Canberra Gunners. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bandits moved-up to sixth place in League. Loser Canberra Gunners still closes the standings with 17 games lost. Bandits will face league's leader Kilsyth Cobras at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Canberra Gunners will play against Dandenong Rangers (#5) and hope to get finally their first victory.
