Fifth-ranked Lightning (13-10) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Wanneroo (18-6) in North Lake on Saturday. The visitors from Joondalup managed to secure only one-point victory 88-87. However their fans expected easier game. Wanneroo dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Lightning's 28. Wanneroo forced 21 Lightning turnovers. Strangely Lightning outrebounded Wanneroo 47-28 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. Forward Jalen Billups (200-92, college: N.Kentucky, agency: Haylett Sports) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Brian Sullivan (180-93, college: Davidson) contributed with 15 points and 8 assists for the winners. Wanneroo's coach used entire bench in such tough game. Forward Daniel Alexander (206-91, college: Grand Canyon, agency: Haylett Sports) replied with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and swingman Bryan Michaels (190, college: Concordia, OR) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Lightning. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Wanneroo maintains second position in League with 18-6 record having just sixteen point less than leader Mackay M. Loser Lightning keeps the fifth place with ten games lost. Wanneroo will face Flames (#8) in Rockingham in the next round where they are favorite. Lightning will play at home against Eagles and hope to win that game.
