The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked AND1 La Paz's (1-4) road loss to fourth ranked Carl A-Z (3-2) 81-88 on Friday. Carl A-Z made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Strangely AND1 La Paz outrebounded Carl A-Z 49-36 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Scheraun King (196-87, college: Albany St.) fired 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (made all of his twelve free throws !!!) for the winners. His fellow American import point guard Yavario Smith (182-89, college: Central Mo.) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four Carl A-Z players scored in double figures. Carl A-Z's coach Marcelo Mendieta used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Dariel Maza produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds and Cuban power forward Daniel Nembhard (204-91) added 26 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Carl A-Z moved-up to third place, which they share with Amistad. AND1 La Paz lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with four games lost. Carl A-Z will face Vikingos (#6) in Tarija in the next round.
