Regular Season Round 21: SD Spartans - Toowoomba M. 124-50
Date: July 28, 2018
No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Brisbane Spartans (12-2) outleveled at home bottom-ranked Mountaineers (0-17) 124-50 on Saturday. Brisbane Spartans dominated down low during the game scoring 90 of its points in the paint compared to Mountaineers' 38. Brisbane Spartans forced 30 Mountaineers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Mountaineers' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brisbane Spartans made 7 blocks. Kassandra Donnelly stepped up and scored 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and German forward Romy Baer (187-87) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Brisbane Spartans players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American swingman Donnaizha Fountain (183, college: Seton Hall, agency: Gamble Sports Management) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and Despena Dickerson (-96) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brisbane Spartans moved-up to third place in League. Loser Mountaineers still closes the standings with 17 games lost. Brisbane Spartans will face Seahawks (#8) in Runaway Bay in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Mountaineers will play on the road against Rollers (#13) in Gold Coast and hope to get finally their first victory.
