Regular Season Round 22: Maitland M. - Sutherland S. 104-79

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when eighth ranked Maitland Mustangs (8-11) outscored at home 7th ranked Sutherland Sharks (8-11) 104-79 on Saturday. Maitland Mustangs dominated down low during the game scoring 88 of its points in the paint compared to Sutherland Sharks' 38. They outrebounded Sutherland Sharks 53-27 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Maitland Mustangs looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Sutherland Sharks' players. Sutherland Sharks were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Tyler Monroe (201-90, college: Azusa Pacific) had a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Joshua Clifford (196-88) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Jai Thomas responded with 15 points and 9 rebounds and Lochlan Hutchison scored 20 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Maitland Mustangs moved-up to seventh place in League. Maitland Mustangs will face league's leader Newcastle Hunters in Broadmeadow in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Sutherland Sharks will play on the road against Hills Hornets (#3) in Baulkham Hills and hope to win that game.
