Regular Season Round 4: Guerreros - Barcelona 93-97

Bottom-ranked Guerreros (0-2) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 97-93 loss to top-ranked Barcelona (2-0) in Santo Domingo on Tuesday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Barcelona shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. American John Shodipo (196-88, college: DuPage JC) fired 31 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international Raul Cardenas (190-82, college: Faulkner) chipped in 27 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Worth to mention Shodipo played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Four Barcelona players scored in double figures. American swingman Deilvez Yearby (200-87, college: IPFW) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Charlie Shorter (185-90, college: MidAmerica Ch.) added 30 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Barcelona keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Guerreros still closes the standings with two games lost. Barcelona will face Leones (#9) in Riobamba in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Guerreros will play on the road against Triple E-Uda in Gualaceo and look forward to get finally their first victory.
