Real Madrid used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Tenerife 88-73 on Sunday night. The game was mostly controlled by Real Madrid. CB Canarias was better in second period 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded CB Canarias 38-27 including 25 on the defensive glass. Mexican center Gustavo Ayon (207-85, college: San Jose St.) stepped up and scored 8 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and international point guard Sergio Llull (190-87) chipped in 12 points and 5 assists. At the losing side point guard Ferran Bassas (183-92) responded with 8 points and 8 assists and international forward Sebastian Saiz (205-94, college: Mississippi) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Madrid will face Valencia Basket (#17) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. CB Canarias will play against Leche Rio Breogan (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
