Regular Season Round 1: Stjarnan - IR 94-77

An interesting game where host Stjarnan (#8) won against IR with 17-point difference 94-77 on Friday evening. Stjarnan dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to IR's 28 and made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded IR 50-33 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Stjarnan looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American forward Paul Jones (198-89, college: W.Washington) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and the former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) chipped in 17 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Stjarnan players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Justin Martin (198-90, college: SMU) responded with 23 points and 9 rebounds and international point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (183-94, college: Columbus St.) scored 18 points. Stjarnan will meet Breidablik (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. IR will play against Haukar in Hafnarfjordur and hope to win that game.
