Regular Season Round 1: Real Canoe - Palencia 70-84

An interesting game was played in Madrid where Palencia Baloncesto beat host Real Canoe 84-70 on Friday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Palencia Baloncesto. Real Canoe managed to win third quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American guard Steve Vasturia (196, college: Notre Dame) stepped up and scored 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and Serbian Nikola Cvetinovic (203-88, college: Akron) chipped in 17 points. Four Palencia Baloncesto players scored in double figures. At the losing side Jose-Miguel Perez (202-96) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and forward Ander Martinez (199-95) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Palencia Baloncesto will meet at home Barca II (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Real Canoe will play against Ourense and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
