Regular Season Round 1: Gran Canaria - Olimpico 64 99-73

Gran Canaria used a home court advantage and outleveled the opponent from Madrid 99-73 on Saturday night. The game without a history. Gran Canaria led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Olimpico 64's 28. They outrebounded Olimpico 64 46-33 including a 39-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Gran Canaria especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. American guard Sparkle Taylor (178-95, college: UTEP) fired 38 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Her fellow American import guard Cassie Breen (178-95, college: Cent.Michigan) chipped in 27 points and 5 rebounds. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Swingman Susana Bacete (179-93) produced 20 points and forward Carmen Arteche (177-91) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria will face Granada (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Olimpico 64's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Madrid ASEFA Estudiantes.
