Regular Season Round 1: A.Kraukla VEF - VEF skola 76-97

A.Kraukla VEF (0-1) recorded a loss in Riga. Hosts were rolled over by VEF skola (1-1) 97-76. It looked good early as A.Kraukla VEF took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then VEF skola had a 32-23 second period charge getting the lead and A.Kraukla VEF was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 76-97. VEF skola forced 27 A.Kraukla VEF turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. A.Kraukla VEF was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Emils Krumins (179-1) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!), 9 assists and 4 steals (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Forward Peteris Salmins (199-1) contributed with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Elvijs Fridenbergs (191-5) answered with 21 points and 5 rebounds and forward Gustavs Zebers (198-2) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for A.Kraukla VEF. Five VEF skola and four A.Kraukla VEF players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. VEF skola will play against Bauskas/Memele in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. A.Kraukla VEF will play against ViA 2 (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
