Regular Season Round 4: Mondragon - Univ.Burgos 69-79

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both top-ranked Univ.Burgos and bottom-ranked Mondragon had identical 0-0 record. But Mondragon was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Burgos 79-69 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in Group A-A. Univ.Burgos dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mondragon's 26 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Mondragon was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Angolan-Polish center Julio De-Assis (203-92) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 rebounds and center Mario Tobar (200-88) who added 10 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side power forward Martin Buesa (204-88) responded with 29 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Dani Lorenzo (181-93) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Univ.Burgos (1-0) keeps a position of Group A-A leader, which they share with 6 other teams. Loser Mondragon still closes the standings with one game lost. Univ.Burgos will face bottom-ranked La Fecha (#10) in Arroyo Encomienda in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mondragon will play on the road against Univ.Valladolid and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
