Regular Season Round 5: Chalon - ASVEL 78-58

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Chalon and 9th ranked ASVEL had identical 2-2 record. This time Chalon used a home court advantage and rolled over the opponent from Villeurbanne 78-58 on Saturday night. Chalon dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to ASVEL's 30. Chalon forced 24 ASVEL turnovers and outrebounded them 46-34 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Hugo Besson (184-1) who scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Lucas Kouyate (201-99) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Matthew Strazel (181-2) produced 16 points and 5 assists and forward Niels Pharose (199-99) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Chalon (3-2) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser ASVEL dropped to the eleventh position with three games lost. Chalon will face Antibes (#13) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. ASVEL will play against Limoges and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
