Regular Season Round 5: Yokohama BC - Toyama Grouses 84-88

Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Yokohama BC (0-5) was defeated at home by third ranked Toyama Grouses (3-2) 88-84 on Wednesday. Toyama Grouses had a 30-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) chipped in 19 points and 14 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. American forward Amanze Egekeze (203-95, college: Belmont) responded with 23 points and 6 rebounds and international point guard Ryo Tawatari (180-93, college: Dominican, CA) scored 18 points and 4 assists. Yokohama BC's coach Thomas Wisman tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toyama Grouses maintains third place with 3-2 record behind leader Kyoto Hannar., which they share with Nagoya DD and Chiba Jets. Yokohama BC lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Toyama Grouses will face league's leader Kyoto Hannar. at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Yokohama BC will play against Shiga L-Stars (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
