Regular Season Round 5: Toyota Alvark - Tochigi Brex 74-79

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Toyota Alvark (4-1) in Tokyo. Hosts were defeated by Tochigi Brex (5-0) 79-74. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Toyota Alvark. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Tochigi Brex dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Toyota Alvark's 36. American forward Ryan Rossiter (204-89, college: Siena) nailed a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Jeffrey Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) accounted for 21 points and 16 rebounds. Tochigi Brex's coach Ryuzo Anzai allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American center Alex Kirk (211-91, college: N.Mexico, agency: Pensack Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and international Yudai Baba (193-95) added 9 points and 10 assists respectively for Toyota Alvark in the defeat. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Tochigi Brex have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record which they share with defeated Toyota Alvark. Defending champion Toyota Alvark still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with 5 other teams. Tochigi Brex will play against Hokkaido L. (#4) in Saporro in the next round. Toyota Alvark will play at home against the league's leader Toshiba Thunders and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
