Regular Season Round 3: Cortegada - Arxil Pontev. 88-52

Very expected game when Arxil Pontevedra (0-3) was smashed by Cortegada (2-1) in Vilagarcia Arousa 88-52 on Saturday. Cortegada dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Arxil Pontevedra's 34. They outrebounded Arxil Pontevedra 51-29 including a 36-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cortegada looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Arxil Pontevedra's players. It was a good game for guard Sara Gomez (172-86, agency: ProDep Management) who led her team to a victory with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Brazilian-Italian Izabella Sangalli (184-95) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Five Cortegada players scored in double figures. Arantxa Mallou (181-91) answered with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and American center Cassie Oursler (190, college: Buffalo) added 8 points in the effort for Arxil Pontevedra. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cortegada will face Ardoi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Arxil Pontevedra will play against GDKO Bizkaia (#9) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
