Regular Season Round 4: Tokyo Cinq R. - Gifu Swoops 91-75

An interesting game took place in Tokyo where one of their biggest challengers Gifu Swoops (3-5) were upset on the court of ninth ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (2-4) 91-75 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gifu Swoops. Tokyo Cinq R. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American center Joe Wolfinger (216-85, college: Citadel) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. The other American import forward Deangelo Kirkland (203-89, college: Columbus St., agency: Interperformances) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Canadian center Michael Allison (206-90, college: Maine) produced 24 points and 7 rebounds and American Bingo Merriex (206-80, college: TCU) added 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gifu Swoops' coach Kazuo Kusumoto tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Tokyo Cinq R. moved-up to fifth place. Newly promoted Gifu Swoops keep the fourth position with five games lost. Tokyo Cinq R. will meet Kagoshima (#7) in the next round. Gifu Swoops will play against Iwate Big Bulls and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
