Regular Season Round 3: Panteras - Capitanes 81-109

Not a big story in a game when Panteras (1-3) were outscored by Capitanes (4-0) in Aguascalientes 109-81 on Saturday. Capitanes dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Panteras' 48. They outrebounded Panteras 38-17 including a 30-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for Dominican guard Rigoberto Mendoza (190-92) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Naturalized American swingman Justin Avalos (190-87, college: Western St.) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Capitanes players scored in double figures. American forward Stedmon Lemon (198-92, college: Johnson C. Smith) answered with 32 points and the former international swingman Jorge-Alfredo Casillas (196-90) added 12 points and 5 assists in the effort for Panteras. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Capitanes will face Abejas (#6) in Guanajuato in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Panteras will play on the road against Libertadores in Queretaro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
