Regular Season Round 5: Residence - Basket Esch 66-102

Bottom-ranked Residence (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 102-66 loss to fifth ranked Basket Esch (3-2) in Bereldange on Saturday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Residence's 40 and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Basket Esch looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Residence's players. American power forward Clancy Rugg (203-91, college: Vermont, agency: Court Side) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Jordan Hicks (201-90, college: Loyola, IL, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 13 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Five Basket Esch players scored in double figures. American forward Treg Setty (203-92, college: Ohio, agency: Mansfield and Associates) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and point guard Kevin Moura (182-94) scored 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Basket Esch moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Sparta and T71. Residence lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Basket Esch will meet Musel Pikes (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Residence will play against Sparta in Bertrange and hopes to get finally their first victory.
