Regular Season Round 6: Toyama Grouses - Kyoto Hannar. 90-71

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Toyama Grouses as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Toshiba Thunders) loss. Toyama Grouses smashed one of their biggest challengers Kyoto Hannar. at home 90-71. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Toyama Grouses dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Kyoto Hannar.'s 28. They outrebounded Kyoto Hannar. 45-33 including 17 on the offensive glass. Toyama Grouses players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. It was a good game for American forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Takeshi Mito (184-85) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. American center David Simon (208-82, college: PFW) replied with 20 points and 8 rebounds and Zimbabwean-American Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH, agency: Pensack Sports) added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Kyoto Hannar.Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toyama Grouses have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Nagoya DD and Chiba Jets. Kyoto Hannar. at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Kyoto Hannar. will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Toyama Grouses will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Kyoto Hannar. at home.
