Bottom-ranked Universitarias (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 62-41 loss to fifth ranked Amazonas (3-5) in on Sunday evening. They held Universitarias to an opponent 22.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 40.6 percent accuracy of the winners. The best player for the winners was Mariangel Concha who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Marilu Martinez chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Amazonas players scored in double figures. Valeria Batista produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and the former international Monica Franco added 4 points and 15 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Amazonas moved-up to fourth place. Universitarias lost their eighth game in a row. Universitarias at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with eight games lost. Amazonas will face league's second-placed Correcaminos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Universitarias will play against Atletico (#5) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
