Regular Season Round 3: Santos - Huracanes 102-91

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Huracanes' (0-2) road loss to Santos (2-2) in San Luis Potosi 91-102 on Sunday. Santos dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Huracanes' 38. They outrebounded Huracanes 43-24 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American point guard Jaron Martin (178-94, college: Cal-Irvine) who led his team to a victory with 36 points (!!!) and 7 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). His fellow American import forward Lyonell Gaines (198-93, college: Morehead St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Gaines is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Bahamas guard Michael Carey Jr. (196-93, college: Wagner) answered with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized American guard Martin Samarco (190-85, college: Bowling Green) added 17 points and 6 assists in the effort for Huracanes. Four Huracanes players scored in double figures. Santos will have a break next round. Huracanes will play against Fuerza Regia (#3) in Monterrey and look forward to get finally their first victory.
