There was a minor upset when Townsville Fire (1-2) lost on the road to Perth Lynx (1-1) 98-88 on Sunday. Perth Lynx looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Brittany McPhee (183-96, college: Stanford) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points and 7 rebounds. The other American import forward Asia Taylor (188-91, college: Louisville, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Perth Lynx players scored in double figures. The former international center Suzy Batkovic (195-80) replied with 23 points and 6 rebounds and the former international forward Tess Madgen (180-90) added 12 points and 7 assists in the effort for Townsville Fire. Townsville Fire's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Perth Lynx will face Dandenong Rangers (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Townsville Fire will play against Sydney Uni Flames and hope to win that game.
