Regular Season Round 8: Yokohama BC - Niigata Albirex 72-88

Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Yokohama BC (2-6) was defeated at home by third ranked Niigata Albirex (5-3) 88-72 on Wednesday. Niigata Albirex made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Niigata Albirex outrebounded Yokohama BC 32-20 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international point guard Shinsuke Kashiwagi (183-81) who added 16 points and 7 assists during the contest. American forward Javon McCrea (201-92, college: Buffalo) responded with 24 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) scored 18 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Yokohama BC's coach Thomas Wisman gave the chance to play for ten players seeing no chance for a win. Niigata Albirex keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Toyama Grouses and Kyoto Hannar. Loser Yokohama BC keeps the fifth place with six games lost. Niigata Albirex will face San-en NeoPhoenix (#5) in Hamamatsu in the next round. Yokohama BC will play on the road against Hitachi Sunrockers in Tokyo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
