Regular Season Round 9: Yamagata - Gunma 74-91

Very significant was Gunma's (#4) 17-point road victory against 3rd placed Yamagata 91-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Yamagata. Gunma made 20-of-23 charity shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Yamagata 39-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Gunma players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Nigerian forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) accounted for 29 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Irish swingman Will Hanley (201-90, college: Bowdoin, agency: Duran International) came up with 14 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Seiji Kouno (172-89) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for Yamagata in the defeat. Four Yamagata players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gunma (5-4) moved-up to third place. Yamagata at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Gunma will play against league's second-placed Cyberdyne IR in Tsukuba in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Yamagata will play on the road against Kagawa FA in Takamatsu and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
