There was no surprise when Ameghino (1-1) lost to Deportivo Norte (2-2) in Armstrong 86-103 on Wednesday. Deportivo Norte looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Point guard Rodrigo Gallegos orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 7 rebounds and 14 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). American forward Maurice Jones (196, college: NW Nazarene) contributed with 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Juan-Luis Abeiro (196-88) replied with 32 points and 5 rebounds (on 13-of-14 shooting from the field) and swingman Mateo Gaynor (199-90) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Ameghino. Ameghino's coach Pablo Castro rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Deportivo Norte will face Echague (#8) in Parana in the next round where they are favorite. Ameghino will play on the road against San Isidro in San Francisco and hope to win that game.
